Candace and Keith were born to great families. They were brought up with high expectations and an intense value system. Their parents had owned their own small businesses, so a work ethic was an important part of their upbringing. Through the years of their adolescence and teens, they were both taught that honesty, loyalty, and commitment would get them very far in life, especially in the business world.
Candace started working at age 16. She learned the basics of the customer service industry from the restaurant business. Keith started working at age 13. When he worked at his father’s business and learned the ins and outs of how to run a full-service gas station, it wasn’t long before he knew that small business ownership was the right place for him. He is not only the best mechanic in the world, but loves the people aspect of business.
At 18 years old, when going to college at California State University at Sacramento, Candace needed a part time job in the evenings. Little did she know, she’d find a new career and a husband at her next place of employment. Candace started as a cashier at the local Chevron service station, where her future husband and father-in-law hired her. She quickly became their bookkeeper and 1½ years later, part of the family. Within her three years working for her husband’s father, she, too, learned the ins and outs of running a service station. A few years later, Candace and Keith purchased their own Shell Service Station in Carmichael, California, and called it, “Neighborhood Shell, where you ALWAYS get Nordstrom Service!” A great success story!
From 1997 to 2000, Candace and Keith took a destitute, run-down business from bankruptcy to maximum success. They worked 18+ hours a day, 6-7 days a week. Candace taught and organized the front of the business (Cashiers, Customer Service, Full-Service Attendants, Hiring, Firing, Ordering, Bookkeeping), while Keith, organized the back of the business (Mechanics, Part-time Attendants, and Chief Customer Schmooze). Together, they were a great team. Their once-bankrupt business increased almost 8 times in less than 3 years, and in 2000, when oil companies tried to control their dealers' pocketbooks, they sold it for a very nice profit and started a new life in Marin. Good ol' fashioned service and hard work was their secret to success!
One year later, they had the most incredible little boy, Jake. He is in high school now, and the focus of their lives. (Running a multi-million dollar company was easy compared to this). While raising their son, Candace and Keith started buying “fixer-upper” homes and remodeling them for a new business. During this time, Candace received her real estate license to further capitalize on the new plans.
Today, Candace and Keith have sold millions of dollars of real estate, and specialize in project management sales and relocations for clients outside of the area, including International and Corporate relocations. They have expanded their knowledge of the rental market and have helped to place families in temporary or permanent rental housing, and transitioning clients into the Bay Area housing market. With Keith’s help, Candace has now been awarded the level of Coldwell Banker’s Previews Property Specialist, Coldwell Banker’s International President’s Elite, Coldwell Banker’s Joane Berry Achievement in Excellence Award, and are repeating Coldwell Banker Central Marin Top Producers.
